Trojans place 14th at Upper Iowa Invite
WATERLOO - The NIACC men's golf team placed 14th at the Upper Iowa Invitational Sunday at the Sunnyside Country Club.
NIACC shot rounds of 336-317 - 656. William Jewell was the team champion with rounds of 302-295 - 597 and Bemidji State was second with rounds of 307-298 - 605.
Kirkwood was fourth (307-304 - 611) and Iowa Central tied for sixth (318-307 - 625).
"After a rough day (Saturday), I'm overall happy with how the guys got after it (Sunday)," NIACC coach Chris Frenz said. "None of them had their 'A' games (Sunday) but I definitely saw glimpses of it at times."
Sophomore Bennett Berger led the Trojans with a 19th place finish with rounds of 81-74 - 155.
"Bennett wasn't real sharp (Sunday)," Frenz said, "but to cobble together a good scoring round is a testament to his ability."
Also for the Trojans, freshman Garrett Ham shot 85-78 - 163, freshman Ashtin Willms shot 86-81 - 167, freshman Drew DeGabriele shot 87-84 - 171 and freshman Gavin Anderson shot 91-91 - 182.
"Garrett Ham put a solid round together," Frenz said. "(Berger) and (Ham) have been the leaders for us.
"Ashtin Willms had it going, lost it for a few holes then got it going again late. And Drew DeGabriele had his normal solid performance."
NIACC returns to action Friday and Saturday at the Iowa Central Invitational in Fort Dodge.
