NIACC's Berger ties for 2nd at Waldorf Challenge
LAKE MILLS - NIACC sophomore Bennett Berger tied for second Monday at the Waldorf University Challenge with a round of 70 at the Rice Lake Golf Course.
Gand View University's Harrison Frohling was the individual medalist with a round of 68.
"Another solid effort from one of our leaders," NIACc coach Chris Frenz said of Berger.
NIACC placed third in the team standings with a round of 302. Grand View University and host Waldorf University tied for first with rounds of 293 and the Vikings claimed the team title on the strength of the fifth score.
"We're disappointed with our team score (Monday)," Frenz said, "but it wasn't easy out there (Monday) with the gusty winds."
Also for the Trojans, freshmen Ashtin Willms and Drew DeGabriele both shot rounds of 77 and freshmen Garrett Ham and Ian Roske both shot 78.
"This team is dangerous if we can get everyone to play their best at the same time," Frenz said. "We've been close all fall and I'm very encouraged for what lies ahead this spring as we begin to wrap up the fall season."
The NIACC B team shot a 312. Freshman Gavin Anderson shot a career-best round of 74, sophomore Tommy Birdsell shot 77, freshman Brady Nygren shot a career-best round of 80, freshman Brody Frayne shot 81 and freshman Sam Van Brocklin shot 87.
NIACC returns to action Friday at the Hawkeye CC Redtail Fall Classic at Fox Ridge Golf Course in Dike.
Team standings - Grand View University 293, Waldorf University 293, NIACC 302, Iowa Lakes 303, NIACC B 312, Waldorf B 320.
