Trojans wrap up fall season at Quad Cup
BOONE - The NIACC men's golf team wrapped up its fall season on Friday at the Quad Cup by placing fourth.
The Trojans dropped a 3-1 decision to DMACC in the opening round. NIACC and Iowa Lakes tied 2-2 in the third-place match with the Lakers winning in a three-hole playoff.
DMACC topped Iowa Central in the title match in a three-hole playoff.
"Even though we took two tough losses (Friday), the Quad Cup is just a great way to wrap up the fall season," NIACC coach Chris Frenz said. "The guys worked hard all fall season long and we battled to the end (Friday).
"Match play is tough. It makes you realize what it takes just to win a hole, let alone a whole tournament. It takes a team effort, never give up and expect the unexpected."
In the match against DMACC, Garrett Ham and Ashtin Willms won 6 and 4. Tommy Birdsell and Gavin Anderson lost 2 and 1, Kyler Glenn and Sam Van Brocklin lost 3 and 1 and Ian Roske and Drew DeGabriele lost 6 and 4.
Against Iowa Lakes, Glenn/Brady Nygren won 1 up, Birdsell/Anderson won 6 and 5, Roske/DeGabriele lost 4 and 3 and Ham/Willms lost 4 and 3.
"I'm very comfortable with where our team is as we go into the off-season," Frenz said. "We'll get everyone healthy and we'll be a team to be reckoned with."
