NIACC falls to Southeastern, 9-1
WATERLOO - The NIACC baseball team bowed out of the NJCAA Region XI tournament with a 9-1, seven-inning loss to Southeastern Sunday afternoon at Riverfront Stadium.
Southeastern (43-18) scored nine unearned runs to advance to the regional title game against Iowa Central. The Blackhawks took advantage of six NIACC errors.
Southeastern faces Iowa Central in the 3:30 p.m. Sunday in the double-elimination tournament. If the Blackhawks win, a second title game will be played at 11 a.m. Monday.
NIACC, which dropped a 12-11 decision to Iowa Central on Saturday night, finished the 2017 season with a record of 39-19. The 39 wins is tied for the third most in school history.
In Sunday's elimination game, Southeastern scored five runs in the second inning and plated four more in the seventh inning to stay alive in the tournament.
Southeastern's Austin Martin was 3 for 4 with two runs scored and two RBIs. The Blackhawks also received two hits and two RBIs from Zeb Adreon and Marco Melgoza collected two hits.
Sophomore Brandon Michie was 2 for 3 with an RBI for the Trojans, who were held to three hits. Sophomore leadoff hitter collected the Trojans' other hit.
Southeastern's Jacob Curry gained the win allowing one run on two hit with seven strikeout and two walks in five innings of work. Sam Noel relieved Curry and pitched two scoreless innings.
