MILLINGTON, Tenn. — Newman product and NIACC freshman Bryce Ball smacked his first collegiate home run as the Trojans rolled to a pair of victories Saturday. NIACC held off Highland (Illinois) 6-4 in its first game and closed out with a 9-6 victory over Lincoln Trail (Illinois).
"Bryce had a good trip," NIACC coach Travis Hergert said. "I thought he had really good at-bats after the first day and he's locked in pretty good. He's a confident kids right now."
Ball had a pair of singles and an RBI in the opener while Ezequias Encarnacion added a double, single and two RBIs for the Trojans (5-4).
Spencer Chirpin picked up the win on the mound with five strikeouts and one walk in four innings. Chase Stewart earned a two-out save after NIACC allowed four runs in the seventh.
Ball had three hits, including a homer, and three RBIs in Game 2, Connor Enochs homered, doubled and drove in two runs, and Brandon Michie drove in two runs as well.
Tyler Lien struck out eight and allowed three runs in 5 2/3 innings to earn the victory.
