NIACC baseball: Did you know?
WATERLOO - The NIACC baseball team faces Iowa Central at 7 p.m. Saturday with the winner advancing to Sunday's NJCAA Region XI title game at Riverfront Stadium.
The title game on Sunday is set for 3:30 p.m.
Here are some facts about the recent history of the NIACC baseball program:
NIACC (39-17) is seeking its third straight NJCAA Region XI title and fourth in five years.
NIACC is one win away from its third straight 40-win season. The Trojans were a school-record best 49-16 in 2015 and 47-16 in 2016.
NIACC ranks third in NJCAA Division II with 125 doubles. The Trojans are tied for 11th with 54 home runs and rank 16th with 423 runs scored.
Since the 2015 regional tournament, NIACC has outscored its opponent 128-59.
Since taking over the program in 2013, NIACC coach Travis Hergert is 18-4 at the regional tournament with his lone losses coming in 2013 (1), 2014 (2) and 2015 (1).
NIACC has won 10 straight games at the regional tournament. In those 10 wins, NIACC has outscored its opponent 108-42.
Hergert, who has a career record of 191-98, is 5-1 against Iowa Central at the regional tournament. Hergert's overall mark against Iowa Central is 12-10.
In the 2015 regional tournament against Iowa Central, NIACC's Daniel Bradley hit a game-tying home run in the ninth inning with two outs and two strikes in an elimination game that the Trojans would eventually win 9-6 in 10 innings.
In the 2013 regional tournament, NIACC topped Iowa Central 8-6 to win its first-ever regional baseball title.
