NIACC claims three titles at Battle For the Helmet
MASON CITY - The NIACC men's wrestling team had three first-place finishers at its Battle For the Helmet tournament on Saturday.
The Trojans, who finished fourth with 93 points as Iowa Western claimed the team title with 186 points, saw Cordell White (149), Hansel Pompa (157) and Jessey Colas (184) all go undefeated.
White picked up a pair of pins, taking only 22 seconds to defeat Lakeland University's Shoichi Hashimoto in the quarterfinals and downed Iowa Western's Kolton Malone in 1:41 in the title match.
Pompa earned his title with a wild 16-15 decision over Iowa Western's Charlie Powers while Colas picked up a 9-6 win over Brent Greenfield of Ellsworth in the first-place match at 184.
NIACC also received a pair of second-place finishes from Isaac Church (141) and Xander Kenworthy (197) while Emmanuel Celstin was 3-1 at 149 pounds, finishing third.
