NIACC's Scanlan places 2nd at Coe College Invite
CEDAR RAPIDS - NIACC freshman Cory Scanlan placed second at 157 pounds Saturday at the Coe College Invitational.
Scanlan (10-6) won three matches to advance to the finals. Millikin University's Nathan Callaway topped Scanlan 6-0 in the 157-pound title match.
Also for the Trojans on Saturday, Emmanuel Celestin placed third at 149 pounds and Xander Kenworthy placed third at 197 pounds.
NIACC's Isaac Church placed sixth at 141 pounds, Jessey Colas was sixth at 184 pounds, Jaylin Smith was seventh at 174 pounds and Brock Moore was eighth at 165 pounds.
At 149 pounds, Celestin was pinned by Coe's Ty Koedam in 1 minute, 38 seconds in the quarterfinals. Celestin won four straight matches (two by fall and two by major decision) to earn third-place honors.
Celestin (9-7) took a 19-7 major decision from Graceland University's Jaden Machado in the third-place match.
At 197 pounds, Graceland University's John Schuttler took a 15-5 major decision from Kenworthy in the semifinals. Kenworthy won two straight matches after his semifinal loss to capture third-place honors.
Kenworthy (9-5) pinned Millikin's Cade Scott in 2:16 in the third-place match.
NIACC returns to action Nov. 29 in a dual meet at Iowa Western.
