NIACC's Church, Colas claim titles at Luther Hill Invite
INDIANOLA – The NIACC men's wrestling team picked up two individual titles Saturday in the freshmen/sophomore division at the Simpson College Luther Hill Invitational.
NIACC sophomore Isaac Church, who is ranked fifth in the first NJCAA individual rankings at 141 pounds, claimed the 141-pound title with a 2-1 victory over Iowa Western's Malachi Bordovsky, who is ranked second.
Bordovsky topped Church three times in the 2022-23 season.
At 184 pounds, Jessey Colas topped Carl Albert State's Trey Hudgens 6-3 in the title match.
Colas moved to the finals with a 10-3 win over Iowa Western's Kolby Larson in the semifinals. Colas stopped the Reivers' Bruce Lukehard 8-5 in the quarterfinals.
At 157 pounds, NIACC's Tanner Warden, who is ranked third, placed second after falling to Indian Hills' Ayden Kingery in sudden victory (SV1, 8-5) in the title match.
Warden moved to the final with a pair of falls and a pair of technical falls.
At 197 pounds, NIACC's Xander Kenworthy placed third and Gregorio Herrera was fourth.
Kenworthy pinned Herrera in four minutes, 37 seconds in the third-place match.
At 157 pounds, NIACC's Jonathan Krogman was fifth and Cory Scanlan was sixth.
At 133 pounds, the Trojans' McKenley Charelus was sixth.
At 165 pounds, NIACC's Roush Jaeger was sixth.
