NIACC's Canton wins 800 at Grinnell Invite
GRINNELL - NIACC freshman Bryson Canton won the 800-meter run on Saturday at the Grinnell College Invitational.
Canton, who is from Cedar Rapids, won the 800 in a personal-best time of 1 minute, 59.38 seconds. William Penn's Jonah Heckenberg was second in a time of 2:00.32.
The 1:59.38 by Canton ranks ninth on the NIACC's all-time indoor 800 list.
Also for the Trojans on Saturday, Perez Hemmings was fourth in the 60-meter hurdles in a time of 8.98 seconds, which was just off his personal-best 8.97 at the Ted Nelson Classic on Feb. 5, 2022.
NIACC's Fabian Steene was third in the high jump with a leap of 6-3 1/4 and Hugo Massa was fifth in the 400 (53.27).
NIACC won the distance medley relay in a time of 11:03.76. Simpson College was second in 11:06.61.
The Trojans' winning DMR team consisted of Jacob Vais, Dylan Novak, Hugo Massa and Canton.
