No. 14 NIACC women place third at regionals
OTTUMWA - The No. 14 NIACC women's cross country team placed third at the NJCAA Region XI meet Friday at the Cedar Creek Golf Course with 70 points.
Iowa Central was the team champion with 20 points and Iowa Western was second with 53 points.
NIACC was led by freshman Paula Jimenez, who was ninth in a time of 18 minutes, 54 seconds on the five-kilometer course and earned second-team all-region honors. Jimenez was the first NIACC runner to place in the top 10 at the regional meet since Jessica Blumberg placed sixth at the 2015 regional meet in Fort Dodge.
Emma Davison also earned second-team all-region honors with a 12th-place finish in 19:19. Earning honorable mention all-region honors were Whitney Martin (15th in a personal-best time of 20:42), Alana Wickering (19th in personal-best 21:10), Cecelia Hemsworth (20th in personal-best 21:11) and Miricle Corbo (22nd in personal-best 21:15).
Also for the Lady Trojans, Ashley Kriener was 29th in 22:24.
