NIACC's Minto seeks finals berth
COUNCIL BLUFFS - NIACC's Christian Minto faces RCTC's Seth Brossard in the 165-pound semifinals Saturday morning at the NJCAA Division I national wrestling tournament.
Minto (21-0) advanced to the semifinals with a pair of victories on Friday. He topped Barton's Andrew Dearmond 10-4 in his first match of the day and then took a 15-3 major decision from Nassau's Paul Illicete in Friday night's quarterfinals.
Minto enters the match as the top-ranked wrestler at 165 pounds. Brossard enters the final four match ranked seventh.
Iowa Central's Ashton Eyler and Iowa Western's Isaiah Crosby meet in the otherr 165-pound semifinal match.
Minto is seeking to become the Trojans' eighth national finalist in the last seven years.
NIACC's Holton Truax faces Iowa Central's Ja'quez Bostic in a 197-pound consolation match Saturday morning.
Truax (17-5) guaranteed himself all-American status Friday night with a 18-3 technical fall over Rowan's Curtis Thomas.
