NIACC goes 6-2 in consy round
COUNCIL BLUFFS - The NIACC wrestling team compiled a record of 6-2 in the Friday afternoon consolation round at the NJCAA Division I national wrestling tournament.
Winning consolation matches in the round of 16 were Clarence Lee-Green (125), Brock Luthens (133), Kendall Sandifer (157), Cody Klettheimer (174), Reldon Miller (184) and Holton Truax (197).
Heading into the Friday night session, NIACC is tied for 12th with 21.5 points.
NIACC's Hunter Luke (141) and Tony Mendoza (149) were eliminated from the tournament Friday afternoon with losses in the consolation round.
Lee-Green, Klettheimer and Truax all picked up falls for the Trojans. Lee-Green stuck Western Wyoming's Dalton Stutzman in 31 seconds, Klettheimer pinned Joliet's Noah Boles in 6:18 and Truax pinned Muskegon's Jake Renfer in 2:32.
Luthens stayed alive with a 4-2 win over North Idaho's Isaac Lopez. Miller topped Iowa Lakes' Logan Koedam 6-4 for his second consolation victory on Friday.
In Friday night's consolation round of eight, Lee-Green (19-9) faces Southwest Oregon's Joel Avila; Luthens (11-6) takes on Neosho's Kolton Smith; Sandifer (12-8) wrestles Northeastern's Sebastian Robles; Klettheimer (7-6) faces Iowa Lakes' Austin Hinzman; Miller (5-13) takes on Itasca's Dalton Bernett and Truax (16-5) meets Southwest Oregon's Ben Hughes.
The Klettheimer/Hinzman matchup will be a rematch of the district tournament bout. Hinzman pinned Klettheimer in 2:58.
