NIACC's Minto moves to quarterfinals
COUNCIL BLUFFS - NIACC's top-ranked Christian Minto moved to the 165-pound quarterfinals Friday at the NJCAA Division I national wrestling tournament.
Minto topped Barton's Andrew Dearmond 10-4 in his second round match. Minto received a first-round bye for being the top seed in his bracket.
Minto (20-0) now faces Nassau's Paul Illicete in Friday night's quarterfinals.
NIACC's Clarence Lee-Green (125), Tony Mendoza (149), Kendall Sandifer (157) and Holton Truax (197) all dropped round of 16 matches Friday afternoon.
Lee-Green dropped a 9-6 decision to Iowa Central's Daniel Vargas.
Mendoza was pinned by North Idaho's Salvador Silva in four minutes, 54 seconds.
Cowley's Liam Corbett took a 7-4 decision from Sandifer at 157 pounds.
Northeast Oklahoma's Colben Dodsen won by technical fall over Truax 18-2 at 197 pounds.
In the consolation bracket, NIACC's Hunter Luke (141), Cody Klettheimer (174) and Reldon Miller (184) all stayed alive in the consolation bracket.
Luke took a 19-5 major decision from Cowley's Isaiah Banks, Miller topped Mercyhurst's Draven Douglas 6-1 and Klettheimer edged North Idaho's Alan Bradley, 6-5.
