Five members of NIACC soccer team honored
MASON CITY - Five members of the NIACC men's soccer team were honored at Monday's all staff meeting.
Layton Wheeler, Ojo Otitolouwa, Vinicius Oliveira, Joao Braganca and Lucas Souza were honored for helping save a man from drowning in the campus pond on Aug. 13.
The Mason City police department was also in attendance to help honor these courageous young men.
On Aug. 13, members of the team saw a person's head bobbing in the water of the pond on campus and heard someone screaming for help. A handful of players quickly took action, jumping in the lake and pulling the man from the water, while one called 911.
