NIACC women fall to Southwestern, 69-62
MASON CITY - The NIACC women's basketball team closed the regular season with a 69-62 loss to Southwestern on Saturday in an ICCAC contest in the NIACC gym.
Southwestern led 29-27 at the half and outscored the Lady Trojans 40-25 in the second 20 minutes.
Southwestern (11-10 overall, 11-9 in ICCAC) was led by Brielle Baker with 19 points. Alyssa Morris scored 17 points for the Spartans.
NIACC (4-15, 3-14) was led by sophomore Czarina Mada with 18 points, six rebounds and three assists. Freshman Kourtney Manning with 11 points, 10 rebounds (her sixth double/double of season) and three blocked shots.
Haley Hungerholt also reached double figures for the Lady Trojans with 10 points.
Seventh-seeded NIACC faces second-seed DMACC in the opening round of the NJCAA Region XI-B tournament at 5 p.m. Tuesday in Boone.
DMACC (14-6, 14-6) won both regular season meetings against NIACC. The Bears won 71-49 in Mason City on Jan. 23 and also won 84-49 on Feb. 13 in Boone.
