NIACC women open season at Iowa Central
FORT DODGE - The NIACC women's basketball team opens the season Wednesday at Iowa Central.
Game time is slated for 5 p.m. in the Hodges Fieldhouse on the Iowa Central campus.
The game marks the first game in the Brad Vaught era for the NIACC women's basketball program.
Vaught, who was an assistant boys basketball coach at Stewartville High School in Minnesota, took over the Lady Trojans on July 24, 2020. He took over for Todd Ciochetto, who left for Seward County CC in Kansas. Ciochetto was 153-46 in six seasons as head coach of the Lady Trojans.
It is also the first game for Iowa Central coach Brian Ortmeier, who previously coached at Laramie County CC.
NIACC returns two sophomores (Abby Leach and Allie Negen) from last season's squad that was 32-1 and claimed its second straight NJCAA Region XI title.
NIACC has won 13 straight games against Iowa Central. The last win by the Tritons in the series was a 76-52 victory in the 2015-16 season.
After Wednesday's contest, NIACC faces DMACC in its home opener on Saturday in the NIACC gym. Game time is slated for 1 p.m.
