NIACC softball team drops pair

TUCSON, Ariz. — The NIACC softball team dropped a pair of games on Monday as the Lady Trojans were defeated 9-6 in nine innings by Valley City State and 10-2 by Wisconsin-La Crosse.
In the opener, NIACC pounded out 15 hits and scored five runs in the fourth inning to take a 6-5 lead.
"Offensively, we'll do great things all year," NIACC coach Christi Weiser said. "The kids were aggressive and we were able to go nine innings against a really good team. We just ran ourselves out of seven runs by not making the best decisions. I'm okay with that because we still came to compete every pitch."
In the nightcap, NIACC (7-5) was limited to five hits – including two from Sara Steinman while Pederson struck out five batters in relief after recording six strikeouts in relief in the opener.
"Pederson threw a lot for us and she was tired at the end," Weiser said. "She came in both games and really changes the pace. She does a lot of things our other pitchers don't do."
