MARSHALLTOWN - The NIACC baseball team pushed its winning streak to seven games with a doubleheader sweep of Marshalltown CC on Sunday.
NIACC won the first game 10-5 and took the second game 17-1 in five innings to complete the four-game sweep of the Tigers. The Trojans scored 64 runs in the weekend series.
The first game on Sunday was final game of the ICCAC series and the second game was designated a non-league contest.
On Saturday, NIACC topped Marshalltown CC 11-7 and 26-1.
In the first game on Sunday, NIACC received home runs from Logan Milene, Cole Fuecker and Lincoln Berry. Fuecker and Berry both had three RBIs and Milene drove in two runs.
Brandt Thompson (4-0) picked up the complete-game win for the Trojans. He allowed five runs (three earned) with nine strikeouts and two walks.
In the second game, NIACC pounded out 15 hits, including five home runs, to score its 17 runs. Fuecker hit two home runs, including a grand slam, and collected a careeer-high eight RBIs.
The eight RBIs is the most in a game for a NIACC player since Zach Fricke drove in seven runs against Century College on April 5, 2016.
Zach Zaetta, Ike Mezzenga and Cayden Nicoletto also hit home runs for the Trojans. Zaetta drove in four runs.
Zaetta, Mezzenga and Fuecker all had three hits for the Trojans.
Hunter Day (3-1) gained the win for the Trojans. Day, who allowed one run on three hits, struck out five and did not walk a batter in 3 2/3 innings of work.
NIACC (25-14 overall, 13-9 in the ICCAC) returns to action Tuesday in an ICCAC game at Iowa Lakes. Game time in Estherville is slated for 1 p.m.
The Trojans host Ellsworth in an ICCAC twinbill on Thursday and host Iowa Western in a four-game series on Saturday and Sunday.
