FORT DODGE – Sophomore Grace Tobin moved herself to the top of NIACC's single-season kills list on Saturday.
Tobin recorded 64 kills in four matches on Friday and Saturday at the Iowa Central tournament to move her single-season total to 604. The old mark was 581 held by Kennedy Meister in 2019 and current NIACC assistant coach Hannah Wagner in 2018.
Tobin and teammate Emily Wittnebel were selected to the Iowa Central tournament all-tournament team.
On Saturday, NIACC dropped a 3-0 decision to No. 2 (NJCAA Division II) Cowley County CC (14-25, 19-25, 19-25) and also fell to Carl Sandburg College 3-1 (25-20, 15-25, 23-25, 11-25).
"It was an awesome experience this time of year being able to compete against No. 1 and No. 2 on the same weekend," NIACC coach Chris Brandt said. "We came off a messy loss Wednesday and competed well this weekend.
"Our efforts and ability to make small changes helped our overall performance and we couldn't be prouder of how this team performed."
On Saturday, Tobin collected 25 kills, 19 digs, five blocks and three ace serves.
Wittnebel had 29 digs and five assists.
Wittnebel returned to the NIACC lineup in Wednesday's ICCAC match against Ellsworth. She had been on the sidelines for 52 days with a concussion.
"Emily Wittnebel played Wednesday and then took back that Libero jersey this weekend," Brandt said. "Maybe a little out of shape, she stepped in and did an amazing job taking care of the ball, developing trust and adding a consistency to our serve receive. We are so proud of her."
Also for NIACC on Saturday, Kaylee Ollendieck had four ace serves, Samantha Coron had kills, 34 assists and 22 digs, Ryley Wetlaufer had 27 assists and nine digs and Kalayah Kaschub had four kills and three blocks.
NIACC's Halsie Keltner had five kills, Tiegan Barkema had 11 kills, 11 digs and three ace serves and Kyla Moore had 11 kills and three blocks.
NIACC (15-22 overall) returns to action Wednesday in an ICCAC match at Iowa Lakes.
