NIACC sweeps Wartburg JV, 3-0
MASON CITY - The NIACC volleyball team topped the Wartburg College Junior Varsity 3-0 Friday night in its home opener in the NIACC gym.
NIACC won 25-18, 25-22, 25-15.
"After a season with only a few fans in the stands, it was a blessing for us to play with the amazing crowd," NIACC coach Chris Brandt said. "(Friday) was all about getting better - every touch, we wanted to be focused as well as intentional with our movements.
"We have played seven matches against ranked opponents to help push us in the right direction and we are so proud of their efforts (Friday)."
NIACC, which has won five straight matches against the Wartburg JV, was led by Grace Tobin with a season-high 23 kills. Tobin also added 13 digs. It was the second time this season and eighth time in her career that Tobin has recorded at least 20 kills in a match.
Tobin had six matches in the 2021 spring season with at least 20 kills in a match and it was the second time this season she reached the 20-kill mark. Tobin now has 434 career kills, which ranks 14th on the school's career kill list.
Also for the Trojans, Samantha Coron had 18 assists, 14 digs, four kills and two ace serves. Ryley Wetlaufer had 15 assists and 11 digs.
NIACC's Kaylee Ollendieck had 13 digs and five assists, Kalayah Kaschub had three kills, Halsie Keltner had eight digs, seven kills, two ace serves and two blocks and Kyla Moore had three kills, three digs and two blocks.
NIACC (3-7 overall) returns to action Wednesday at No. 11 Hawkeye CC in an ICCAC match, which is slated to start at 6 p.m.
