NIACC advances on penalty kicks
BETTENDORF - The NIACC women's soccer team knocked off Scott CC 7-6 in penalty kicks on Saturday in the opening round of the NJCAA Region XI Division II tournament.
The match was tied 0-0 after two overtimes and the two teams were tied 6-6 after the first 12 penalty kicks.
Scott CC, the fourth seed, missed its seventh penalty kick and Valerie Nelson scored the match-winner for the fifth-seeded Trojans and lifted them to Tuesday's regional semifinals.
NIACC (3-10-1) faces top-seed Northeast CC at 2 p.m. on Tuesday with the winner moving on to the regional finals on Saturday, Oct. 30. Northeast CC topped NIACC 12-0 and 3-0 in their two regular season matches this season.
NIACC had dropped the two regular season matches to Scott CC, which topped the Trojans 3-0 and 1-0.
