Harsma named NIACC's interim head women's soccer coach
MASON CITY - Gannon Harsma has been named the interim head coach of the NIACC women's soccer team.
Under intermin head coach Graham Lynch, Harsma was the goalkeeper coach for the NIACC men's and women's programs in the 2021 spring season. Lynch will be the NIACC men's head coach starting with the 2021 fall season.
Harsma is also the head soccer coach at Belmond-Klemme High School.
He also spent time as the head coach/goalkeeper coach for the Colorado Eagles, a 13-under soccer team, in 2017-18.
Harsma, who graduated from Sioux City East in 2013, was the assistant coach/goalkeeper coach for Sioux City West High School in 2018-19.
Harsma played for the Des Moines Menace Academy when he was 15 and won a state championship.
Harsma played on three NAIA national championship teams for Grand View University.
The NIACC women were 7-8 in the 2021 spring season and advanced to the NJCAA Region XI Division II semifinals before falling to Hawkeye CC, 2-1. The seven wins by NIACC was the most ever by a NIACC women's soccer team. The previous high win total was in the 2018 season when the Trojans were 6-7-1.
NIACC brought back women's soccer in 2017 after not having a program since 2004.
