Moellers places 10th at RedTail Spring Shootout
DIKE - Freshman Cameran Moellers had the shot of the day for the NIACC women's golf team on Monday at the Hawkeye CC RedTail Spring Shootout at the Fox Ridge Golf Club.
Moellers recorded an eagle on the par 5 first hole from as she holed out from 135 yards on her way to a career-best round of 90 to lead the Trojans at the four-team tournament. Moeller's previous career best round was 92 twice in the fall season.
"It was a nice day for Cameran Moellers," NIACC coach Chris Frenz said, "as she had one of her best rounds of the spring in difficult conditions.
"She knocked in about a 135-yard shot on hole No. 1 for eagle and that helped offset a couple of difficult holes. She was hitting her driver much better (Monday) and that truly is the strength of her game."
Also for the Trojans, sophomore Emma Weiner shot a 96, freshman Paige Danger shot a 98 and sophomore Karissa Hoon shot a 98.
NIACC placed fourth with a 382. Coe College was the team champion with a 347. DMACC was second with a 348 and host Hawkeye CC was third with a 374.
It was the final regular season tournament for the Trojans, who compete in the NJCAA Plains District Championship April 29-30 at the Mariah Hills Golf Course in Dodge City, Kan.
"They're all looking forward to playing in the regional tournament," Frenz said. "Hopefully, it won't be so windy but it's Kansas so there's a pretty good chance it will be."
