MASON CITY - Moving on.
The NIACC men's soccer team opened the NJCAA Region XI Division II tournament with a convincing 7-0 win over Scott CC on Saturday on the NIACC campus. NIACC, which led 1-0 at the half, scored six goals in the second 45 minutes.
NIACC (5-10-1 overall) now faces No. 6 Southeastern in the regional semifinals at 3 p.m. on Tuesday in West Burlington. Top-seed Southeastern received a first-round bye in the regional tournament.
Southeastern, which was the ICCAC champion with an 8-0, mark enters Tuesday's regional semfinal with a record of 10-4. The Blackhawks topped NIACC 3-0 in September in Mason City and nipped the Trojans 2-1 in double overtime in West Burlington on Oct. 18.
In NIACC's 7-0 win over Scott CC on Saturday, Hugo Duran scored two goals to lead the Trojans. Moritz Ickler, Hugo Ordonez, Giovani Lima Soares, Geoffroy Letienne and Rodrigo Catala Cases also scored goals for the Trojans.
Federico Figueredo picked up the shutout in goal for the Trojans.
The shutout by the Trojans was just the second shutout in the regional tournament in the last 10 seasons. The Trojans blanked DCTC 6-0 in the opening round of the regional tournament in 2021.
