NIACC men place 5th at Waldorf Challenge
LAKE MILLS - The NIACC men's golf team placed fifth out of 11 teams on Monday at the Waldorf University Challenge at the Rice Lake Golf and Country Club.
The Trojans shot a 322 and were led by freshman Jackson Koebernick with a 76, which is one shot of his career best round.
"Jackson Koebernick was really good (Monday)," NIACC coach Chris Frenz said. "I'm proud of how hard he battles to get the best out of his game.
"He's an excitable player and when he's playing well, he's tough to beat."
Host Waldorf was the team champion with a 310. Iowa Lakes was second with a 312 and Iowa Central was third with a 318.
Also for the Trojans, Kai Nelles and Tim Castle both shot 81s. Bryce Malchow shot 84 and Ryan Berkley shot 87.
"We needed the others to step up (Monday) and we had a good chance to win this," Frenz said. "I really like how this team is coming together this fall. We're trending in the right direction for this spring."
NIACC's B team shot a 341. Anders Palmquist shot 81, Elic Fjetland shot 84, Mitchell Staudt shot 87 and Bennett Suntken shot 89.
NIACC returns to action Friday at the Quad Cup at the Rice Lake Golf and Country Club.
