
NIACC women set to open season
MARSHALL, Mo. - The NIACC women's soccer team is set to kick off the 2019 season this weekend.
NIACC faces the Missouri Valley College Junior Varsity at 1 p.m. Saturday. The Lady Trojans will play at State Fair CC in Sedalia, Mo., at 6 p.m. on Sunday.
The Lady Trojans were 6-7-1 overall and 4-4-1 in the ICCAC in 2018 under coach Leo Driscoll.
Returning sophomores for the Lady Trojans in 2019 are Sarah Wendel, Lily Walker, Rosie Freeman, Tarran Williams, Emily Jay and Rose Priestley.
Priestley, a midfielder, was an honorable mention all-NJCAA Region XI selection as a freshman. She scored two goals and had four assists in 2018.
NIACC notes: Donovan is the fourth women's soccer coach in school history ... Jason Hoenshell (2001-02), Allan Allsup (2003-04) and Leo Driscoll (2017-18) were the school's first three women's soccer coaches ... The 6 wins by the Lady Trojans last season set the school record for wins ... The previous high-water mark for wins for a NIACC women's team was in 2002 when the Lady Trojans were 5-5-2.
