
NIACC men send three to quarterfinals
COUNCIL BLUFFS - The NIACC men's wrestling team will have three wrestlers in Friday night's quarterfinal round at the NJCAA national tournament at the Mid-America Center.
NIACC's Cruz Aguilar (125), Ein Carlos (184) and Drew Fox (197) all stayed alive on the championship side of the bracket with a pair of wins Friday.
At 125 pounds, Aguilar topped Western Wyoming's Bridger Ricks 7-4 and took a 11-4 decision from Indian Hills' Riley Bettich.
At 184 pounds, Carlos took an 11-0 major decision from North Idaho's Travis Waldner and he stuck Triton's Jeivan Ross in 1 minute, 57 seconds.
At 197 pounds, Fox stopped Triton's Curtis Ruff II 3-2 in sudden victory. Fox then took a 13-7 decision from Jamestown's Brock Johnson in his second round match.
NIACC's Isaac Church won his first-round match by technical fall (18-3) over Northeastern's Bronson Richins. Church then fell to Indian Hills' Matthew Lewis 7-5 in his second round match.
Church stayed alive in the consolation side of the 141-pound bracket with a 14-5 major decision victory over Bryant & Stratton's Tristan Hammen.
At 174 pounds, NIACC's Cale Luthens dropped his first-round match to Iowa Central's Phil Smith Jr., 7-3. Luthens picked up a 16-0 technical fall over Joliet's Louis Johnson.
Luthens was eliminated with a 8-5 loss to Northeastern Oklahoma's Tye Frnka.
At 285 pounds, NIACC's Jacob Leohr was pinned by Northeast Oklahoma's Kale Schrader in 2:37 in his first-round match. Ridgewater's Austin Schlangen in 6:24.
