
NIACC's Church, Carlos move to finals
IOWA FALLS - The NIACC wrestling team advanced two wrestlers to the finals of the NJCAA North Central District Championships Sunday on the Ellsworth campus.
NIACC's Isaac Church (141) and Ein Carlos (184) advanced to the finals with semifinal round victories.
Church (16-5) stopped Indian Hills' Matthew Lewis 19-7 in his semifinal round bout.
Carlos (4-3) won by injury default over Indian Hills' Cade Linn 29 seconds into the match.
Church, who is ranked eighth, will face Iowa Western's fourth-ranked Malachi Bordovsky in the 141-pound title match. Bordovsky topped Iowa Lakes' Caleb Nadig, 9-3, in his semifinal match.
Carlos, who is ranked eighth, will face Ellsworth's Brent Greenfield in his title contest. Greenfield won by injury default over Iowa Central's sixth-ranked Quentin Saunders in 4:09.
Carlos moved to the semifinals with a 14-8 win over Iowa Lakes' John Colburne.
Church received a bye in his first-round match.
NIACC's Tanner Chase Warden (149) and Jacob Leohr (285) both dropped semifinal matches.
Indian Hills' Neverteson Lahens topped Warden 6-4 in sudden victory in the 149-pound semifinals and Indian Hills' Kawaun Deboe picked up a 17-0 technical fall over Leohr in the 285-pound semifinals.
Heading into the consolation semifinals, NIACC is in fifth place with 58 points. Iowa Western leads the tournament with 98.5 points and Iowa Central is in second with 83 points.
