NIACC's Castle ties for 7th at RedTail Shootout
DIKE - NIACC sophomore Tim Castle tied for seventh Monday with a 77 at the Haweye CC RedTail Spring Shootout at the Fox Ridge Golf Club.
DMACC's Lari Hakanen was the individual medalist with a round of 74. Iowa Lakes' Janio Zaayman and Hawkeye CC's Kaeden Anderson tied for second with rounds of 75.
"Tim Castle had a nice day (Monday)," NIACC coach Chris Frenz said. "He's really been leading the team this year and his head is completely in the game.
"Outside of a triple bogey he took after going out of bounds, he did a great job of battling the conditions and keeping himself in the tournament. He had a couple of real good looks at birdie on 12 and 13 but just didn't convert."
NIACC, which placed fifth with a team score of 326, also received an 80 from sophomore Jackson Koebernick, a 81 from Anders Palmquist, a 88 from Tommy Birdsell and a 90 from Mitchell Staudt.
NIACC's Bennett Suntken played as an individual and shot 86.
"I thought Jackson and Anders did a good job (Monday) in these (windy) conditions," Frenz said. "Team-wise, we still need to get everyone dialed in."
DMACC was the team champion with a 312. Host Hawkeye CC was second with a 320 and Simpson College was third with a 322.
NIACC returns to action Wednesday at the DMACC Spring Invitational in Boone with a 36-hole event.
Team standings - DMACC 312, Hawkeye CC 320, Simpson College 322, Iowa Lakes 323, NIACC 326, Hawkeye CC B 345.
