Castle fires 72 at Iowa Central Invite
FORT DODGE - NIACC's Tim Castle shot a 72 and is tied for fourth place after the first day Friday at the Iowa Central Spring Invitational.
Iowa Central's Colby Ramsdale and Iowa Lakes' Janlo Zaayman are tied for first with rounds of 70.
Castle shot nines of 35 and 37 for his round of 72, which is his lowest round of the 3-round spring season to date.
"Tim Castle really put together another solid effort (Friday)," NIACC coach Chris Frenz said. "He's striking the ball well and does a great job of keeping his head in the game on every shot.
"He took a tough double bogey on the long par 3 13th hole but then came back on 14 and stuck his approach shot about two feet from the pine and made birdie."
It was Castle's third round in the 70s this spring. He also shot 76 at the Graceland University Spring Invitational and 77 at the Clarke University Spring Invitational.
NIACC's Anders Palmquist shot 38-39 - 77, Elic Fjetland shot 37-43 - 80 and Jackson Koebernick shot 41-45 - 86 for a team total of 315. The Trojans are tied for ninth place with a round of 315.
Also for the Trojans, Bennett Suntken shot 43-45 - 88, Tommy Birdsell shot 42-47 - 89 and Mitchell Staudt shot 45-46 - 91.
"Anders Palmquist also put together a nice round (Friday)," Frenz said, "after starting out a little slow."
The second round of the 2-day event is set for Saturday.
"We'll regroup (Saturday) and be ready to compete," Frenz said.
