NIACC's Boerjan shoots 79 in round three
PLYMOUTH, Ind. - NIACC sophomore Ben Boerjan shot a 40-39 - 79 in the third round at the NJCAA Division II national tournament at the Swan Lake Golf Resort on Thursday.
Boerjan enters Friday's final round with a 80-80-79 - 239.
For the third straight day, inclement weather played a factor at the national tournament.
"It's like Groundhog Day here," NIACC coach Chris Frenz said. "Rain overnight, delay tee times, 6-hour round.
"Ben plays solid for a good stretch of holes then runs into a rough patch for three or four holes."
Frenz said the wind picked up during Thursday's round.
"The course played tough (Thursday)," the coach said, "and, of course, longer with the wet conditions. He drove the ball well (Thursday), but his iron play has been just a little off all week."
Weather permitting, Boerjan's final round will begin at 10 a.m. (EDT).
"He's looking forward to the final challenge (Friday)," Frenz said, "and hopes to end his NIACC career on a high note."
