NIACC's Boerjan shoots 80 on 1st day at nationals
PLYMOUTH, Ind. - NIACC sophomore Ben Bojerjan shot a 39-41 - 80 Tuesday on the opening day of the four-round NJCAA Division II national tournament at Swan Lake Resort.
The tournament had a three-hour rain delay Tuesday morning.
Boerjan, who placed 43rd at last year's national tournament, parred the first three holes once the tournament started.
"He made a couple of bogeys on back-to-back par 5s," NIACC coach Chris Frenz said, "but then did a good job of keeping it together on the front to shoot 39.
"On the back nine, his iron game let him down as the wind started to gust."
The second round of the tournament is set for Wednesday and some golfers will have to finish their first round on Wednesday.
"He's looking forward to the challenge (Wednesday) to get back into the upper level of the leaderboard," Frenz said.
Frenz said Boerjan more than likely will have an afternoon tee time for his second round.
"He's not out of this tournament," the coach said. "A good day (Wednesday) and we'll be thrigh there."
