NIACC's Boerjan shoots 80 for 2nd straight day
PLYMOUTH, Ind. - For the second straight day, NIACC sophomore Ben Boerjan shot an 80 at the NJCAA Division II national tournament at the Swan Lake Golf Resort on Wednesday.
Boerjan shot a 39-41 on Wednesday and now has a two-round total of 80-80 -160 heading into the final two rounds of the national tournament. The former St. Ansgar prep also shot a 39-41 -80 in the opening round on Tuesday.
"Ben got it going in the middle of the round (Wednesday) when he got it to one-under through 11 holes," NIACC coach Chris Frenz said. "Then the wheels came off for a stretch following a triple bogey on No. 12 and he just never really recovered."
For the second straight day Wednesday, rain and wet conditions forced a delay in the morning.
The final two days of the tournament are set for Thursday and Friday.
"He's a bit frustrated at the moment because the goal all year was to get to the national tournament and perform well," Frenz said. "This is a tough test of golf with the weather conditions and the length of this course.
"He's got two more days to compete and he's looking forward to attacking the course again over the next few days."
