NIACC falls to Southwestern, 67-66
MASON CITY - The NIACC men's basketball team dropped a 67-66 decision to Southwestern in an ICCAC contest Saturday afternoon in the NIACC gym.
Southwestern (4-7 overall, 2-0 in the ICCAC) led 37-33 at the half. NIACC outscored the Spartans 33-30 in the second half but came up one-point short.
Southwestern's Joel Villanueva connected on one of two free throws with 5.4 seconds remaining in the contest to give the Spartans a 67-66 lead. Jaylin Dunlap missed a 10-foot jumper at the buzzer for the Trojans.
Southwestern was led by Devin Tomlinson with 29 points and nine rebounds. Villanueva was next in line for the Spartans with nine points.
NIACC (5-8, 0-3) was led by Myles Tucker and Dunlap with 14 points, apiece. Noah Compan was also in double figures for the Trojans with 13 points.
NIACC's Chett Helming scored eight points and collected eight rebounds. Tucker collected five steals.
NIACC returns to action Wednesday at home against Iowa Central. Game time in the NIACC gym is slated for 7:30 p.m.
