NIACC's Freund qualifies for nationals in 3,000
CEDAR FALLS - NIACC's Zach Freund won the 3,000-meter run in a time of 9 minutes, 00.16 seconds and qualified for the NJCAA national meet Friday at the Jack Jennett Invitational on the Northern Iowa campus.
The NJCAA national qualifying standard in the 3,000 is 9:00.54.
NIACC's Jacob Day placed second in the 3,000 in 9:04.63.
Also for the NIACC men, Alex Vanderploeg was fourth in the high jump with a leap of 1.77 meters. Vanderploeg was also sixth in the 60 hurdles in 9.54.
Ruben Dorsey was fifth in the long jump (6.03 meters), Rayvon Gray was seventh in the 200 (23.28) and Jose Aguilera was fourth in the mile (4:33.19). Dorsey recorded a leap of 13.03 meters in the triple jump and placed first out of two competitiors.
For the NIACC women, sophomore Taylor Glawe placed second in the high jump with a personal best jump of 1.55 meters.
Glawe's previous career best jump was 1.46 meters in the 2015 indoor season.
Also for the NIACC women, Kendra Schmidt was fourth in the mile in a time of 6:02.58 and Steinunn Atladottir was sixth in the long jump with a leap of 5.12 meters.
NIACC returns to action Saturday, Feb. 6 at the Grinnell Invitational.
