NIACC men's track team places third at regionals
COUNCIL BLUFFS - The NIACC men's track and field team placed third at the NJCAA Region XI meet with 61 points on Sunday.
Iowa Central was the regional champion with 348 points and Iowa Western was second with 345 points.
NIACC sophomore Imad Amenzou placed second in the 800-meter run in a time of 1 minute, 54.44 seconds. The Trojans' Jose Aguilera was sixth in 2:01.24.
Aguilera also was fourth in the 1,500 in a time of 4:02.99, which qualified him for the NJCAA national meet. The 1,500 national qualifying standard is 4:03.46.
Also for the Trojans, Jacob Day was fourth in the 5,000 in a time of 15:56.42, Zach Freund was fifth in the 3,000 steeplechase in 9:47.27 and Ruben Dorsey was sixth in the triple jump (12.95 meters).
The Trojans placed third in the 4x100-meter relay in 43.67 seconds running Blake Blickenderfer, Rayvon Gray, Mark Maddox and Finn Nightingale. The Trojans were also third in the 4x400 (3:25.94) running Maddox, Amenzou, John Enright and Gray.
The NIACC women placed fourth with 38 points. Iowa Central was the women's regional champion with 338.5 points and Iowa Western was second with 303.5 points.
For the Lady Trojans, Jordan Lane was fifth in the 3000 steeplechase (13:41.43), Kendra Schmidt was sixth in the 1,500 (5:36.80) and Sola Stephenson was sixth in the 400 hurdles (1:13.65).
