NIACC's Amenzou, Day qualify for nationals
DES MOINES - NIACC's Imad Amenzou placed fourth in the university/college division in the 800-meter run at the Jim Duncan Invitational Saturday at Drake Stadium in 1 minute, 54.96 seconds.
Amenzou's time qualified him for the NJCAA national outdoor meet in May in Levelland, Texas. The NJCAA national qualifying standard in the 800 is 1:55.35.
On Friday, NIACC's Jacob Day placed 13th in the 5,000 in a time of 15:25.77 to qualify for the NJCAA national meet. The NJCAA national qualifying standard is 15:29.16.
Also for the NIACC men, Zach Freund was eighth in the 3,000-meter steeplechase in 9:55.88, Alex VanderPloeg tied for eighth in the high jump (1.80 meters), Ruben Dorsey was eighth in the triple jump (12.72 meters) and the 4x100 team of Blake Blickenderfer, Rayvon Gray, Mark Maddox and Finn Nightingale was eighth in 43.91 seconds.
For the NIACC women, Sola Stephenson was second in the javelin with a toss of 36.87 meters. Sarah Snavely was seventh in the hammer throw (38.60 meters) and eighth in the shot put (10.50 meters) and Taylor Glawe was eighth in the high jump (1.45 meters).
