
NIACC women set to compete at nationals
FORT DODGE - The NIACC women's cross country team will compete in the NJCAA Division I national meet on Saturday at the Lakeside Municipal Golf Course.
The men's 8-kilomter race will start at 11 a.m. The women's 5K race begins at noon.
The defending women's national champion is Lansing CC, which won last year's national meet in El Dorado, Kan. with 103 points. Central Arizona was second with 106 points
The NIACC women have placed in the top 20 six times at the national meet since starting the program in 2004. The Lady Trojans were 18th in 2008, 20th in 2009, 14th in 2010, 15th in 2011, 13th in 2013 and 13th in 2014.
LADY TROJANS AT REGIONALS
NIACC placed 4th at the NJCAA Region XI meet in Fort Dodge on Oct. 29 with 109 points. Iowa Central was the regional champion with 15 points. Freshman Julia Dunlavey was a second-team all-region selection with her 14th place finish in 20:19.
Sophomores Keisha Gonzague and Amy Fullerton both earned honorable mention all-region honors. Gonzague was 20th (20:56) and Fullerton was 21st (21:57).
Also in the top seven for the Lady Trojans were Rebekah Larson (32nd in 22:28) and Allison Steahr (37th in 23:05).
NIACC AT 2016 NATIONAL MEET
NIACC placed 28th with 746 points. Kendra Schmidt led the Lady Trojans with a 107th place finish in 20:29. Other counting scores for the Lady Trojans were Gonzague (156th in 21:08), Amy Fullerton (190th in 21:35), Guadalupe Diaz (229th in 22:15) and Cassy Bonsall (245th in 22:40).
