
First Trent Smith Invitational set for Oct. 13
MASON CITY - The NIACC men's and women's cross country teams will host the first Trent Smith Invitational on Oct. 13.
Smith, who died in a car accident in the fall of 2016, was a former cross country and track and field standout for NIACC form 2011-13. He was NIACC's first male cross country all-American and is the current school record holder in the indoor 3,000-meter run.
The women's 5-kilometer race will start at 4:30 p.m. on the NIACC campus. The men's 8K race will start at 5:15 p.m.
The entry fee is $100 per team.
NIACC is also looking to field men's and women's alumni teams for the race. Team captains are former NIACC standouts Anna (Buenneke) Lucs and Jacob Day.
The entry fee for a NIACC alumni runner is $10.
