
NIACC women blank Hawkeye CC, 1-0
MASON CITY - The NIACC women's soccer team opened the ICCAC season with a 1-0 victory over Hawkeye CC on the NIACC campus.
Sophomore Jessica Altman scored the Lady Trojans' lone goal at the 27 minute mark of the second half on an assist from sophomore Kirrilly Hughes.
It was the first victory in the series against Hawkeye CC for the NIACC women's team. Last season, Hawkeye CC won a pair of matches (6-2 and 2-0) against the Lady Trojans.
It was also the NIACC women's first conference victory since topping DCTC 5-0 in a league match on Oct. 17, 2017.
Saturday's match was the first shutout of the season for the Lady Trojans as Sydney Shea gained the win in goal.
It was the third shutout for the Lady Trojans since the school reinstated women's soccer in the 2017 season and eighth shutout in program history. The Lady Trojans picked up a 3-0 win over Lake Superior College and a 5-0 win over DCTC in the 2017 season.
NIACC (3-2 overall, 1-0 in the ICCAC) returns to action Wednesday at home against Northeast CC in an ICCAC match. The match is slated to start at 2 p.m.
