NIACC sends 5 wrestlers to all-American round
COUNCIL BLUFFS - The NIACC wrestling team sits in sixth place with 52.5 points heading into the all-American round Saturday at the NJCAA national tournament at the Mid-America Center.
NIACC's Austin Anderly (141) and Mario Pena (285) will wrestle in the semifinals starting at 10:30 a.m. Saturday.
Anderly, who is ranked sixth and is 13-5, faces Highline's third-ranked Andrew Ramirez in his semifinal matchup.
NIACC is in sixth place with 52.5 points with five wrestlers still alive (2 on the championship side, 3 on the consolation side).
Northeast Oklahoma leads the team race with 93 points and has three wrestlers in the semifinals and six alive on the consolation side. Iowa Central (5 in the semifinals, 3 alive on consolation side) is in second with 91 points.
Ellsworth is in fifth place with 54.5 points. The Panthers have two in the semifinals and three alive on the consolation side.
Iowa Western is in eighth place with 48 points and Iowa Lakes is in ninth with 46 points. The Reivers have one in the semifinals and two alive on the consolation side and the Lakers have two in the semifinals and two on the consolation side.
In Saturday's consolation rounds, the Trojans send Brennen Doebel (125), Jamarius Jackson (133) and Tucker Black (165) to the mat.
Doebel (12-3 and ranked seventh) wrestles Northeast Oklahoma's fourth-ranked Logan Terrill.
Jackson (12-4) faces Iowa Western's eighth-ranked D'Andre Brumfield.
Black (19-9) takes on Niagara's second-ranked Troy Keller.
The consolation finals are slated to start at 1:15 p.m. The finals begin at 7 p.m.
