NIACC's Ruiz wins 3K at Grinnell
GRINNELL - NIACC freshman Jorge Ruiz won the 3,000-meter run at the Grinnell College Invitational on Saturday.
Ruiz won the 3,000 in a time of 9 minutes, 22.54 seconds to help lead NIACC to a fifth-place finish with 79 points.
William Penn University won the team title with 159 points.
NIACC also picked up second-place finishes from Janvier Irakoze in the mile (4:48.53) and Jalen Petersen in the 5,000 (16:08.63). Ellis Regan was fifth in the mile (4:57.87) and eighth in the 800 (2:10.98).
NIACC had three top-six finishes in the field events. Marquise Berry was third in the high jump (5-10 3/4), Angelo Jackson was fourth in the long jump (20-6 1/4) and Abner Girouard was sixth in the weight throw (41-1 3/4).
NIACC placed fifth in the 4x400 meter relay in a time of 3:46.86. The Trojans ran Jordan McKnight, Jackson, Marcel Smith and Ndumiso Ngcezula.
In the 200, NIACC's Tinashe Chigudu was third (23.31) and McKnight was sixth (23.59).
In the 60, Ngcezula was fourth in 7.19.
In the 400, McKnight was third in 53.91.
In the 3,000, Paul Roehr was eighth (10:31.31).
In the 5,000, NIACC's Stephen Ringo was fourth in 16:38.62.
