
NIACC places fifth at Battle of Waterloo
WATERLOO - Sophomore Jack Barragy shot a 76 on a chilly Saturday to lead the NIACC men's golf team at the Battle of Waterloo at the Gates Park Golf Course.
Also Saturday for the Trojans, who shot a 316, Kai Nelles shot 78, Bryce Malchow shot 81, Bradley Vaith shot 81, Eric Ritter shot 83 and Hunter Heintz shot 86.
"It was great to see Jack put a good round together on a difficult scoring day," NIACC coach Chris Frenz said of Barragy, who shot 78-85-76 - 239 and tied for 19th in the individual medalist competition. "He really hit the ball well this weekend considering the conditions.
"Once that putter gets rolling, he'll be where he wants to be."
The 54-hole tournament included rounds at the Irv Warren Memorial Golf Course and South Hills Golf Course on Friday.
NIACC shot a three-round total of 317-324-316 - 957. Host Hawkeye CC was the team champion with a three-round total of 297-309-311 - 917.
Nelles led the Trojans with a 77-76-78 - 231, which tied for seventh in the indiviual medalist competition. William Penn's Jordan Lester was the individual medalist with a 71-76-78 - 225.
"Kai had another solid day," Frenz said. "He's not pleased with his finish, but he hit some really quality shots (Saturday)."
Vaith shot 81-81-81 - 243, Malchow shot 81-82-81 - 244, Ritter shot 82-88-83 - 253 and Heintz shot 78-97-86 - 261.
NIACC returns to action Tuesday at the NIACC Spring Invitational at the Mason City Country Club.
