
NIACC men place 8th at own invite
MASON CITY - The NIACC men's golf team placed eighth at the NIACC Fall Invitational on Tuesday with a 327 at the Mason City Country Club.
Iowa Central was the team champion with a 293, DMACC was second with a 302 and Iowa Central B was third with a 303.
"We are extremely disappointed with how we played (Tuesday)," NIACC coach Chris Frenz said, "but we need to not dwell on (Tuesday) and move forward.
"We are a much better team than we showed out there (Tuesday) and we know it."
NIACC was led by Jack Barragy and Bryce Malchow with a pair of 81s. Other counting scores for the Trojans were Kai Nelles (82) and Bradley Vaith (83). Also for the Trojans, Jacob Wiersma shot 83, Eric Ritter shot 85, Andrew Crane shot 86 and Hunter Heintz shot 87.
Iowa Central's Liam Ross and Justin Schipper shared individual medalist honors with a pair of 72s.
"The first tournament of the year is now out of the way," Frenz said, "so we can't look back, but we do need to learn from (Tuesday). We have to be prepared to win, but can't just show up. All of our guys come from winning programs so they know what it takes."
NIACC returns to action Thursday at the Hawkeye CC Fall Invitational in Waterloo.
