NIACC drops pair to Crowder College
JOPLIN, Mo. - The NIACC baseball team opened its 2019 season with a pair of losses to Crowder College on Sunday.
NIACC lost the opener 15-5 in six innings and also dropped the nightcap 5-4.
In the first game, Crowder scored eight runs in the third inning and plated four runs in the fourth frame.
The Trojans received home runs from sophomores Jacob Hansen and Fox Leum.
In the second game, NIACC scored three runs in the first inning, but Crowder scored one run in the second inning and plated four runs in the third inning to take a 5-3 lead. The Trojans got one run back in the fifth inning but that would be as close as they would get.
NIACC starter Michael Oh pitched the four innings allowing four runs on four hits with five strikeouts and one walk.
The Trojans received second-game doubles from Shane Kelleher, Brodie Paulson and Ross Cochran.
Notes: Leum has 10 career home runs ... Hansen has 7 career home runs ... NIACC's first game starter Tom Skoro collected 2 strikeouts in 2 1/3 innings pitched giving him 88 career strikeouts, which ranks 13th on the school's career strikeout list ... Kelleher has 15 career doubles.
