MASON CITY - The NIACC men's soccer team held off a furious late rally from Scott Community College, picking up a 4-3 victory in ICCAC action at the NIACC pitch on Saturday.
NIACC (3-5 overall, 3-5 ICCAC) jumped out to an early lead as Caolan Brown pushed home a goal on an assist from Lewis Bowes in the second minute of the contest. Luke McMahon added a goal in the ninth minute for a 2-0 lead.
Then, the Trojans were forced to play down a player due to a red card with just under 21 minutes remaining in the opening half.
However, that didn't stop McMahon from pushing the NIACC lead to 3-0 less than a minute later, scoring on a penalty kick. Scott answered back with just under 13 minutes to go in the first half, cutting the deficit to 3-1.
McMahon tallied his third goal of the match in the opening minute of the second half for NIACC, giving the Trojans a 4-1 lead before Scott cut the deficit to 4-2 with 15 minutes left and 4-3 with 8:36 to play.
NIACC returns to action on Tuesday when the Trojans travel to take on Dakota County Technical College.
