NIACC advances 5 to round of 16
COUNCIL BLUFFS - The NIACC wrestling team moved five wrestlers to the round of 16 at the NJCAA Division I national wrestling tournament Friday morning.
Winning first-round matches for the Trojans were Clarence Lee-Green (125), Tony Mendoza (149), Kendall Sandifer (157) and Holton Truax (197). Christian Minto (165) had a first-round bye as the tournament's top seed in his weight class.
Lee-Green won by technical fall over Northwest's Dawson Barfuss, 17-0; Mendoz topped Labette's Parker Price, 5-1; Sandifer nipped Minnesota West's Braydon Johnson, 4-3; and Truax pinned Lackawanna's Jayden Bortz in 1 minute, 23 seconds.
Brock Luthens (133), Hunter Luke (141), Cody Klettheimer (174) and Reldon Miller (184) all dropped first-round contests Friday morning. Luthens, Luke and Klettheimer will wrestle in consolation matches Friday afternoon.
