Berkley leads NIACC at Waldorf Fall Invite
ALBERT LEA, Minn. - Freshman Ryan Berkley shot a 78 to lead the NIACC men's golf team Sunday at the Waldorf University Fall Invitational at the Wedgewood Golf Course.
NIACC, which shot a 328 as a team, also received a 81 from Bryce Malchow, a 82 from Kai Nelles, a 82 from Jackson Koebernick and a 88 from Tim Castle.
"This was a very difficult scoring day," NIACC coach Chris Frenz said. "I'm proud of how they all hung in there.
"It's tough when you think you'r hitting good shots and the wind just knocks it down. It really becomes a mental grind."
Berkley's 78 was one shot off his career best and his third round in the 70s this fall.
"Ryan Berkley was really solid (Sunday)," Frenz said. "I couldn't be more impressed with his play."
Also for the Trojans on Sunday, Elic Fjetland shot 88, Anders Palmquist shot 91, Bennett Suntken shot 92 and Mitchell Staudt shot 101.
NIACC placed sixth in the team standings with its 328. Hawkeye CC won the tournament with a 315 and Iowa Central was second with a 318.
NIACC returns to action Monday at the Waldorf University Challenge at the Rice Lake Golf Course in Lake Mills.
