Mary Jo Vrba begins her first year as an assistant coach under 14th-year head coach Chris Brandt with the NIACC volleyball team in the 2023 season.

Vrba is no stranger to college coaching.

She was an assistant volleyball and softball coach from 1998-2001 at Wartburg College.  She served as head softball and assistant volleyball coach at Loras College from 2001-2003.

And she was NIACC’s head softball coach from 2003-2006 and head volleyball coach from 2007-2010.

Following her coaching at NIACC, Vrba was an assistant and head volleyball coach at Newman Catholic high school.  She also served as an assistant coach for NIACC women’s basketball for the 2020-21 season.

Vrba works full time at NIACC as the Camps & Events Promotions Specialist.  She previously held an Enrollment Advisor position for many years with the college.  She received her Associate in Science from NIACC in 1996, her Bachelors from Wartburg in 1998, and completed her Masters at the University of Northern Iowa in 2011.  Coach Vrba competed in volleyball, basketball, and softball while at NIACC.  She went on to compete in basketball and softball at Wartburg College.

When not working at NIACC, Vrba enjoys spending time with friends, family, and her fur-babies: dogs Maggie & Lucy, and cats Kitty and Evie and all the extra pups she boards in her home.
